How is the Semantic Web evolving? A dynamic social network perspective
نویسندگان
چکیده
Finding how the Semantic Web has evolved can help understand the status of Semantic Web community and predict the diffusion of the Semantic Web. One of the promising applications of the Semantic Web is the representation of personal profiles using Friend of a Friend (FOAF). A key characteristic of such social networks is their continual change. However, extant analyses of social networks on the Semantic Web are essentially static in that the information about the change of social networks is neglected. To address the limitations, we analyzed the dynamics of a large-scale real-world social network in this paper. Social network ties were extracted from both within and between FOAF documents. The former was based on knows relations between persons, and the latter was based on revision relations. We found that the social network evolves in a speckled fashion, which is highly distributed. The network went through rapid increase in size at an early stage and became stabilized later. By examining the changes of structural properties over time, we identified the evolution patterns of social networks on the Semantic Web and provided evidence for the growth and sustainability of the Semantic Web community. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. The Symbiosis of Human and Semantic Technology Through the Lens of Actor-Network Theory
Background: Semantic technologies (STs) have made machine reasoning possible by providing intelligent data management methods. This capability has created new forms of interaction between humans and STs, which is called "semantic interaction." The increasing spread of this form of interaction in daily life reveals the need to identify the factors affecting it and introduce the requirements of...

متن کاملSemantic and Time-Dependent Expertise Profiling Models in Community-Driven Knowledge Curation Platforms
Online collaboration and web-based knowledge sharing have gained momentum as major components of the Web 2.0 movement. Consequently, knowledge embedded in such platforms is no longer static and continuously evolves through experts’ micro-contributions. Traditional Information Retrieval and Social Network Analysis techniques take a document-centric approach to expertise modeling by creating a ma...
متن کاملMeasuring the Dynamic Bi-directional Influence between Content and Social Networks
The Social Semantic Web has begun to provide connections between users within social networks and the content they produce across the whole of the Social Web. Thus, the Social Semantic Web provides a basis to analyze both the communication behavior of users together with the content of their communication. However, there is little research combining the tools to study communication behaviour an...
متن کاملDC Proposal: Capturing Knowledge Evolution and Expertise in Community-Driven Knowledge Curation Platforms
Expertise modeling has been the subject of extensive research in two main disciplines Information Retrieval (IR) and Social Network Analysis (SNA). Both IR and SNA techniques build the expertise model through a document-centric approach providing a macro-perspective on the knowledge emerging from large corpus of static documents. With the emergence of the Web of Data, there has been a significa...
